Upcoming events to honor beloved teacher

The Redmond Junior High (RJH) Ignite Mentors invite all who were touched by the life of teacher Heather Haworth to join them in honoring her at two events on Saturday, June 13.

The Redmond Junior High (RJH) Ignite Mentors invite all who were touched by the life of teacher Heather Haworth to join them in honoring her at two events on Saturday, June 13.

Haworth passed away on Jan. 6 due to complications from cystic fibrosis. Well-known for her passions for math and science, she was named RJH’s Outstanding Educator for the 2007-08 school year, took hundreds of female students on Expanding Your Horizons field trips to encourage careers in math and science and also coached girls’ tennis at RJH.

The Heather Haworth Memory Walk on the Redmond High School (RHS) Track, 17272 NE 104th St., will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 13. Check-in starts at 10:30 a.m. Please register for the walk by June 5. Requested donation is $5 minimum per participant.

A benefit show in honor of Heather Haworth, featuring student music and dance performances, will run from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13 at the RJH Commons, 10055 166th Ave. NE. Tickets are $7 in advance or at the door.

All proceeds from these events will go to the Heather Haworth Mathematics and Science Enrichment Fund and the Prestin Haworth College Fund. Prestin is Heather’s young son. She was also survived by her husband David Haworth and parents Teri and Bill Foreman.
