A 30-year-old Redmond man died in a two-car accident on eastbound Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie on Saturday afternoon.

A 30-year-old Redmond man died in a two-car accident on eastbound Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie last Saturday afternoon.

According to a Washington State Patrol (WSP) press memo and press release, at 2:10 p.m. a 20-year-old male driver from Medina was traveling eastbound on I-90 near State Route 18 and drifted onto the left shoulder and hit a parked vehicle.

A 29-year-old Redmond female standing outside her vehicle was struck and critically injured. The man who was sitting in the female’s car later died at Harborview Medical Center. He was identified as Sohel Ahuja by the King County Medical Examiner’s office on Monday.

The Medina man — who witnesses said was driving with his “phone to his ear” and over the 70 mph speed limit — was arrested for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault for driving with disregard for the safety of others, trooper Chris Webb said in the press release.

The King County Prosecuting Attorney Office’s press secretary said the Medina driver, who has not yet been charged, was released from jail Monday pending ongoing investigation.

The female driver of the 2008 Honda Civic was transported to Harborview Medical Center. The driver of the 2002 Toyota Highlander was uninjured.

The roadway, near mile post 26, was partially blocked for approximately two and half hours.

At press time, the cause of the accident and charges are under investigation.

WSP is asking witnesses to call or contact detective Russ Haake at russ.haake@wsp.wa.gov or (425) 401-7717.

A friend of Ahuja’s wrote on his Facebook page: “RIP Sohel Ahuja, you will be missed!” Another friend added: “Am Sorry… Prayers for his family.”

One reader noted on the Reporter’s website that Ahuja was a former Amazon S3 employee.
