VALA Eastside will host the film photography installation “Slowing the Selfie” at the VALA Art Center, 7330 164th Ave N.E.

Using pinhole cameras and film, a group of seven regional photographers explores the juxtaposition of the modern day “selfie” and one of the oldest forms of photography. This project features free events, including a discussion led by Todd Schlemmer on 3-D printed pinhole photography. The installation will run from May to June and was curated by Marisa Mouton Provo.

It will feature pinhole photographs by Colby Perry, Hank Leiter, Jana Uyeda, Jeff Soderquist, Provo, Monica Smith and Schlemmer.

“Slowing the Selfie” is sponsored by the City of Redmond.

“We’re grateful for the grant from the City of Redmond to carry out this project,” said VALA art programs director Marianne Johnson. “This is the first film photography installation at VALA and visitors will be invited to take their own ‘slow selfies’ using provided pinhole cameras.”
