VALA’s role in arts in education provides a professional, public venue for student artists to show their artworks. VALA supports art as a part of the academic discipline in schools because it is “our belief that art is a part of everything we do,” reads a press release.

“Art is intrinsic to our lives emotionally, physically, literally, subjectively,” emphasizes Jessica Lambert, co-founder and executive director of VALA Eastside. “For that reason, we want to support Lake Washington’s high schools effort to continue arts education at the secondary level as a discipline in and of itself and not taught as a byproduct of another discipline.”

The 15:4 Art Installation, running Friday through March 30, will feature more than 70 student works from Redmond High School, The Bear Creek School, Eastlake High School and Lake Washington High School. The installation is almost entirely curated by the students with organizational help from their teachers.
