Angel Care Volunteers — all breast-cancer survivors — provide one-on-one emotional support to those newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Serving the greater Puget Sound area, the services are provided free of charge.  Because the Volunteers have been through the journey to wellness, the support is sensitive and caring. Health-care providers refer patients although anyone can ask for the service.

“This walk is our way of celebrating all mothers and especially those who have survived breast cancer,” says Jan Elliott, event chair and board member. “Giving back is our way of showing that life after cancer can be joyful and rewarding.”

Founder and board chair Jan Harris formed the organization 15 years ago when she experienced breast cancer and found little assistance for the emotional challenges of the disease and treatment.

“Many things have changed since then, yet the emotional support that helps the patient and loved ones is still needed,” she stated.

Registration is $35 and can be done online at: www.firstgiving.com/angelcarebreastcancerfoundation/walk2013.
