Young Women’s Conference coming to teen center Oct. 12-13

The Old Fire House Teen Center is hosting a Young Women’s Conference supporting the variety of young women’s skills and ambitions.

The two-day event will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12 and 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the teen center, 16510 NE 79th St. in downtown Redmond. The Young Women’s Conference is open to women ages 13 to 19 and costs $7 a day.

A variety of workshops will include auto maintenance, personal safety, music recording, plumbing, songwriting, a Women in Math and Sciences panel and more.

To register, go to www.redmond.gov or call (425) 556-2300. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. There will be a few spaces available the day of the event.

Samantha Smith with City of Redmond Parks and Recreation developed the idea to help young women in Redmond see their potential. “We wanted to give girls a chance to learn from women succeeding in exciting occupations and encourage young women to meet others with similar interests,” Smith explained.
