Dr. William Vernon Utter passed away on July 27, 2009 shortly after his 81st birthday. He was born in Mount Ida, Arkansas and raised in Oklahoma.He served in the Navy as a medical corpsman. Upon leaving the Navy he entered college and received a B.S. in Education and a B.A. in History. He then went on to teach in a private Military Academy. Medicine was his real interest and he entered Des Moines University and received his Osteopathic degree in 1964. He interned at Waldo Hospital in Seattle and upon completing his internship opened his medical practice in Kirkland in 1965. He moved from downtown Kirkland to open Rosehill Medical Clinic and then built and operated Redmond Medical Clinic. He was a member of the original staff of the Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. Dr. Utter retired from medical practice in 1996.He was active in the Kirkland Rotary and a member of the AMA, King County Medical Society, American Academy of Family Physicians and the Washington State Medical Association. Dr Utter was a long-time resident of the Rosepoint Community in Kirkland. He was an active supporter of the Kirkland Performing Arts and KCTS.Dr. Utter always had time to listen, mentor and teach. He was so generous with his time and resources. He touched the lives of many people in our community with his kindness and compassion. Dr Utter considered it a privilege to practice medicine and his practice was a source of joy and intense personal and professional satisfaction.“Doc” had close friends in Spain and loved to visit whenever time and his health permitted.Dr. Utter is survived by a half-brother, John Utter; a nephew, Lawrence Pangrass; a niece, Teri Moore; extended family members Scott Leinbach and Virginia Foulk.“He lives on in our hearts in loving memory”
