Voicing your opinion and voting is the way to go | Editor’s Notebook

For the last month or so, Redmond citizens voiced their opinions on the city’s two propositions and voted in the primary election.

King County Elections began tallying votes on Tuesday, and at press time, Proposition 1 had a “no” percentage of 53.06 and a “yes” percentage of 46.94; at Proposition 2, there was a “no” percentage of 54.11 and a “yes” percentage of 45.89.

There are plenty of ballots still to be tallied and results will be certified at 4 p.m. Aug. 18.

We at the Reporter received 23 letters on the propositions, which addressed public safety, infrastructure and walkability, and parks maintenance and capital projects. Residents also chipped in with their “yes” and “no” viewpoints on our website and Facebook page. That’s what it’s all about: Having a say on what’s going on in your community and sharing the “podium,” so to speak, with your fellow citizens.

Current and former Redmond City Council members chipped in, as did a former Redmond mayor and a host of readers, all of whom are outspoken about what goes on in their city.

Issues discussed were questioning tax hikes and city expenditures, setting the record straight on the city’s finances, appreciating the city’s parks and being on board with improvements, and speaking up and casting your votes to decide what happens in Redmond.

One reader wondered why the Reporter had a “no” letter at the top of the online feed at one point. I can assure you that there were “yes” letters in the front spot at different times, as well, because we gave equal say to all letter writers.

And now you’ve voted and we’ll receive the final certified results soon. We’ll see what happens and will inform you on the next step in the proposition process.

Thanks for writing and caring.
