• Srs. Lyle Rudnicki, Oliver Rudnicki: Twin brothers have loads of tournament experience over the summer and are ready to lead the team in their senior campaign.

• Sr. Cole Helgeson: State qualifier last year will contribute some solid scores and add to the Mustangs’ depth.

• Jr. Jimbo Curtin: Made state as a sophomore, a long-hitting Bear Creek Country Club member who has a big advantage playing matches at home.

• Sr. Kirk Gysler: One of four upperclassmen on the roster, looks to nail down his first state berth.

Although the Redmond girls are well-known for their 8-year Kingco winning streak, the Redmond boys had a fine streak of 24 consecutive league wins snapped on Tuesday with their loss to Eastlake at Sahalee Country Club.

 

BIG MATCH

• Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. vs. Woodinville at Echo Falls: With the Eastlake match already in the books, the Mustangs’ next biggest league threat is the Falcons, who get to take the Mustangs on at their home course.

 

THE OVERLAKE SCHOOL

• Head Coach: Doug Weaver, 8th season

• Last Year: 8-0, 1A Emerald City League Champions, 9-0 overall, 4th at 1A state tournament

• 2011 turnout numbers: 15

 

KEY RETURNERS

• Jr. Daniel Lee: Co-captain is a state returner, and has a solid and consistent game. Should medal many times in league matches.

• Sr. Noah Mayer: Co-captain also has state tournament experience.

• Jr. David Anderson: Tri-districts player from last year looks to make state for the first time.

 

TOP NEWCOMERS

• Sr. Dean Poplawski: Excellent all-around athlete (soccer, basketball, baseball) is trying out for golf for the first time.

• Srs. Cody Kautz, J.J. Cardenas: Two more outstanding upperclassmen athletes giving golf a shot.

 

DID YOU KNOW?

Head coach Doug Weaver, in his seven previous seasons coaching the boys’ golf team, has an overall record of 67-9, a phenomenal .881 winning percentage.

• Monday, October 17, 2011, 2:30 p.m. vs. Seattle Academy and Bellevue Christian at Snoqualmie Falls: This last regular season league match against two very good programs will be a great tune-up for the postseason.
