In their Sea-Tac 2B league opening basketball matchup, the Grizzly boys simply outmatched the Crusaders on Friday night at home, winning 61-26.
Bear Creek set the tone early, scoring 21 first-quarter points while holding Tacoma Baptist to just two.
For the Grizzlies, Collin Feight led with a season-high 20, followed by Luke Blankenbeckler and Jesse Leuenberger with 10 each.
With the win, the team stayed perfect at 5-0 overall.
Owls dominated by Bellevue Christian
The Overlake boys basketball team couldn’t get anything going against a tough Vikings team on Friday night, falling 71-34.
Dean Poplawski led the Owls with 13 points as the team dropped to 1-2 in 1A Emerald City League play and 2-4 overall.
Fourth quarter dooms Lady Mustangs
Playing in a nonleague battle on the road against Lake Washington, the Redmond High girls let the game slip away in the fourth quarter, losing 54-38.
The team overcame a four-point second quarter, trailing only 32-30 after three, but allowed the Kangs 22 points in the final period to put the game away.
The loss dropped the Mustangs to 2-4 overall.
Bear Creek girls stifled by Napavine
Playing the powerhouse Napavine program at home in a Saturday afternoon nonleague game, the Tigers’ defense stopped the Grizzlies in their bear tracks 46-24.
Bear Creek was outscored in every quarter against the Tigers, who have been to the state tournament nine straight seasons.
For the Grizzlies, Kristina Engelstone scored a team-high seven points, followed by Madelyn Magee with six.
The girls are now 3-3 overall.
