Bear Creek, Overlake compete in league cross-country championships

Bear Creek's girls took second and Overlake's boys placed third at the 1A Emerald City League cross-country championships on Oct. 21 at Lincoln Park in Seattle.

Bear Creek’s girls took second and Overlake’s boys placed third at the 1A Emerald City League cross-country championships on Oct. 21 at Lincoln Park in Seattle.

Bear Creek’s Andrea and Olivia Markezich battled it out with Ela Nickels of Bush to finish in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Their times were 19:46.60, 19:46.90 and 19:47.40. Bear Creek’s Angela Tzen captured eighth in 21:13.50. All these girls were some of the top runners to notch all-league honors.

All-leaguers Cooper and Spencer Arons led Overlake in third and fourth, respectively, with times of 16:48.80 and 16:58.70.

The Bear Creek boys took sixth place, led by Alex Finan’s 14th-place finish in 17:52.60.

Overlake’s girls took sixth, led by LuLu Pinczower in 16th in 21:58.80.

Districts are Saturday at South Whidbey High.
