Despite sweeping both singles matches, the Bear Creek Grizzlies lost all three doubles matches during Thursday’s 1A Emerald City League match to Bush school, falling 3-2.

Winning for the Grizzlies were Jake Imam (6-3, 6-0) over Nicolas Marchi, and Adam Worley coming from behind to beat Varun Sukasen 4-6, 7-6 (11-9), 6-2.

In 4A Kingco action, the Mustangs lost to Skyline 5-2.

Highlights for Redmond included Dhruv Balakrishnan sweeping his opponent 6-0, 6-0, and Noah Kinisch and Nolan Miller overcoming a tough first set loss to beat Inchul You and Nick Ziats, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.

 

Mustang golfers fire away, beat Newport

Scoring conditions were ideal for Redmond’s 4A Kingco golf match against Newport, and the Mustangs took full advantage in a 191-204 win.

Medaling for the Mustangs was Lyle Rudnicki, shooting a 1-under-35, followed by Cole Helgeson with an even-par 36.

Also contributing scores for Redmond were Oliver Rudnicki (37) and Conrad Croshaw (40), with low man for Newport being Kevin Zhao’s 37.

The win elevated the Mustangs to 7-2 on the season.

 

Mustangs falter late against Issaquah

The Redmond High girls’ soccer team had a 2-1 lead in the second half, but couldn’t hold on as Issaquah scored two unanswered goals to win on the Mustangs’ home turf 3-2 last night.

Kelsey Costello evened up the score in the 10th minute off Sierra Bilginer’s assist, and Kristen Hayman scored unassisted 10 minutes into the second half to give the Mustangs the lead, before Eagles’ strikers Audrey Thomas and Morgan Zach put in the equalizer and game winners.

The loss dropped Redmond to 2-1-1 (3-3-3 overall) while Issaquah improved to 3-0-1 (5-3-1).
