Former Overlake soccer star earns prestigious collegiate honor

Jesse Klug, Overlake’s second all-time goal scorer and member of the 2012 boys state championship soccer team, added another award to his impressive resume recently.

Jesse Klug, Overlake’s second all-time goal scorer and member of the 2012 boys state championship soccer team, added another award to his impressive resume recently.

Klug, a senior at Bucknell University (Lewisburg, Penn.) and standout on the men’s soccer team, has been named 2015 Patriot Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

In 2012, The Seattle Times named Klug to the Star Times team as he was named the WIAA 1A State Player of the Year. In college, he scored 29 goals and 19 assists, placing him sixth on the Bisons’ career point list.

Off the field, Klug has excelled, as well. In addition to the Patriot League honor, Klug was a Third Team Academic All-American and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American in 2014. He has won the Charles F. White Prize for Scholar-Athletes and the ECAC Merit Award.

Klug carries a 3.65 grade-point average in managing for sustainability.

He spent the spring 2015 semester studying in Central America as part of his academic focus on academic focus on economic and socio-cultural issues, and he is one of the leaders on the Bucknell campus in the areas of social justice and inclusiveness.

This is Klug’s second straight year on the all-academic team.
