Growls baseball takes fourth at state

After rolling through to the final four, the combined Bear Creek-Overlake baseball team lost to eventual champion Vashon Island, 1-0, and again to Freeman, 3-2, at the 1A state tournament last weekend at County Stadium in Yakima.

After rolling through to the final four, the combined Bear Creek-Overlake baseball team lost to eventual champion Vashon Island, 1-0, and again to Freeman, 3-2, at the 1A state tournament last weekend at County Stadium in Yakima.

The Growls finished fourth.

Vashon scored in the second inning and held on for the win. The Growls’ Ryan Long had one hit, pitched seven innings and had eight strikeouts. Also for the locals, Matt Kelleran, Trevor McRae and Zach Foster had hits.

Freeman won the next game with a run in the top of the eighth inning and then held the Growls in the bottom of the frame. For the locals, Tellier Lundquist had three hits and scored two runs, and Long, McRae, Peter Dudunakis and Neal Sivadas had one hit each. Kelleran pitched seven innings and had eight strikeouts.
