Redmond Mustangs wrestler Leah Hiatt rebounded with authority after being pinned in the 115-pound girls tournament quarterfinals by Liberty’s Maizy Feltwell.

Hiatt, who finished in seventh place at the state tournament in her weight division, pinned Jamiah Christin (Yelm) in just 43 seconds in her first consolation match on the second day of the tourney. Hiatt initially put Christin on her back courtesy of a head and arm toss.

“I do the head and arms way too much because of my judo (martial arts) background. It is kind of instinct,” Hiatt said with a smile. “It always feels awesome to get one of those flying throws.”

Hiatt said she’s improved by leaps and bounds since her freshman season two years ago.

“I feel like I have made some big steps,” she said.
