‘Hoops for Food’ helps Hopelink

Redmond’s Old Fire House Teen Center raised over 200 cans of food for Hopelink last Saturday at its “Hoops for Food” event, a three-on-three basketball tournament that pitted teens against teams from the Redmond Police and Redmond Fire Departments.

While the Fire squad ended up the victor with a 25-20 victory over Police in the championship, the real winner was charity.

“We collected over 200 cans of food that is going to Hopelink,” noted Ken Wong, Teen Programs Director at the Old Fire House. “This event will help fill the shelves at Hopelink at a time they need it the most.”

Six teams in total participated, two from the police department, one from fire, and three representing the teen center.

“It was fun to see sports activities at the Old Fire House and it was especially fun to bring together Redmond teens, fire fighters, and police officers for some friendly competition,” said Jake Whitten, the teen captain. “I plan on continuing training for my next chance to take them on again in 2010.”
