Lady Owls basketball wins state academic award

The Overlake School girls' basketball team was recently named the 2011-2012 Washington Interscholastic Activities Association's (WIAA) Academic State Champions for the 1A classification at the state tournament in Yakima.

The Overlake School girls’ basketball team was recently named the 2011-2012 Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s (WIAA) Academic State Champions for the 1A classification at the state tournament in Yakima.

The team, coached by Sara Wilcox, earned a cumulative GPA of 3.8 for the season.

“It was a great honor for us to receive Academic State Champs this year,” said Wilcox, a fourth-year coach. “As a young but growing team, the girls were able to attend the state tournament in Yakima, experience the feeling of the atmosphere of the state tournament, and receive an outstanding award.”

Team members include: Seniors Christina Kuklinski and Jimena Sanchez, junior Davis Scilley, sophomores Katie Hill, Lauren Bazley, and Mariel Frank, and freshmen Christy Kettel, Maddie Klineman, and Julia Turner.
