Flynn laced a double in the second inning that brought in two, and launched a two-run home run, her first of the year, in the fifth.

The Cougars scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap off tiring starter Emily Graves, who went 4 2/3 innings for the win, with Melissa White coming on in relief and pitching shutout ball.

Stephanie Gero and Joanna French each notched two hits in the game, while Jenny Eisenmann went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

With the win, the Mustangs halted their three-game losing streak and improved to 4-5 in league play and 7-6 overall. They currently sit in third place in the Crest Division, one game behind Skyline (5-4, 8-5).

The Mustangs next play at home on Friday, at 4:30, against Inglemoor.

SCHMIDT’S CAREER NIGHT LIFTS OWLS OVER LAKESIDE

In a critical Division I lacrosse matchup between two teams in the middle of the standings, the Overlake Owls got an incredible nine-goal performance from senior Devon Schmidt on Wednesday as he scored nine goals in a 15-10 victory over the Lakeside Lions at Lakeside School.

Overlake goaltender Chap Grubb turned away 14 shots during the game as the Owls improved to 6-4-0 and the Lions dropped to 5-4-0.

SAMMAMISH LACROSSE DROPS REDMOND

In a low-scoring Division II lacrosse matchup, four Sammamish players scored one goal each in a 4-2 win over the Mustangs at Interlake High School on Wednesday night.

Redmond played spectacular defense against Sammamish’s potent lineup, but were only able to score a pair from Brad Bomberry and Tanner Champagne.

Goaltender Nico Shewey recorded 12 saves and allowed just four goals for a .750 save percentage.

The loss evened Redmond’s record at 5-5-0 on the season.

OWL GOLFERS DEFEAT RIVAL CEDAR PARK

The Overlake School boys’ golf team knocked off Cedar Park Christian, 172-185, in an Emerald City League match at at Echo Falls Golf Course on Tuesday.

Freshman sensation Danny Lee led the Owls with a four-over-par round of 40, with Sam Brown right behind with a 41. In addition, three players shot solid 44s for Overlake: Kevin Bush, Christian Koczarski and David Anderson.

Cedar Park standout Grant Zapara medaled with a 39.

The Owls next play against Bush at the Golf Club at Redmond Ridge on Thursday afternoon after the Reporter’s deadline.

OWLS TENNIS BEATS BUSH

Playing at home against Bush School, The Overlake School girls’ tennis team won all but their No. 3 doubles match as the Owls routed Bush 4-1.

Lana and Julia Robbins, playing No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, won in straight sets, with Lana giving up only one game against Maya Shields 6-1, 6-0 and Julia overwhelming Rebecca Hildreth 6-2, 6-3.

The doubles team of Stephanie and Caroline Roush beat Tia Monahan and Vanessa Wong of Bush 6-0, 6-2, and Catherine Jessen and Emily Walter beat Alaina Dussler and Paige Ioppolo 6-2, 6-2.
