Mustang fastpitch skid hits three as Roosevelt comes from behind

Playing against Roosevelt on Friday night at Lower Woodland Park, the Redmond High fastpitch team succumbed to the Roughriders in a pivotal seventh inning in a 9-8 loss.

Roosevelt struck first as Division I-bound leadoff hitter Isabelle Batayola launched a leadoff homerun to straight away center field, and scored again to lead 2-0.

The Mustangs tied up the game 4-4 going into the final frame, and seemed to put the game away with an offensive explosion which included three hits and taking advantage of a couple Roosevelt fielding errors to put four runs on the board.

The Roughriders, with their backs to the wall, were extremely patient at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, drawing four walks and banging out four runs and three hits to pull even.

With the bases loaded and one out, Batayola hit a medium-depth fly ball into foul territory which was caught, and the Roosevelt runner beat the relay for the winning run.

The Mustangs will try to right the ship against Ballard, visiting Redmond this afternoon at 4:30.

BIG SIXTH PROPELS VIKINGS PAST OWLS

The Overlake School baseball team chased Bellevue Christian starter Jo Jo Howie out of the ball game by scoring three runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead, but the Vikings came back with a vengeance to win 7-4 on Thursday afternoon at Marymoor.

Bellevue Christian plated six runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a home run off the bat of Ryan Fitzpatrick, who had four RBIs in the game.

For Overlake, Josh Bensussen, Aaron DiGenova and Dean Poplawski each had two hits in the loss.

The Owls fell to 3-4 on the season in league play, and 5-8 overall.
