The Mustangs got on the board with Chris Schumacher’s 32-yard field goal early in the second quarter, and took the lead on a pair of touchdown passes of 9 and 31 yards from Brady Anderson to receiver Nikolaj LaCour.

The second half was all Kangs, however, as they broke through the Mustangs’ defense, totaling 360 yards rushing on 45 plays to Redmond’s 58 yards on the ground.

For the Mustangs, Anderson went 15-for-32 passing for 161 yards and was intercepted twice.

With the loss, the Mustangs dropped to 0-2 and will take on Woodinville on Friday at Pop Keeney Field in Bothell, game time 7 p.m.

 

Bear Creek places ninth at prestigious SunDome tourney in Yakima

Last Saturday, the Bear Creek School volleyball team (below) took on some of the best competition in the Pacific Northwest in Yakima at the SunDome Volleyball Festival, placing ninth out of 32 teams.

In pool play, the Grizzlies finished with an even 3-3 game record to earn a spot in the No. 2 seeds quarterfinals to fight for ninth through 16th place in the event.

In the finals, Bear Creek won three matches that each went the distance, beating Hermiston, Ore., and Ellensburg 2-1 before outlasting Kennewick 25-20, 15-25, 15-11 to place ninth.

The Grizzlies played a total of 14 hours of volleyball that day, including 15 games in six matches.

They next play on Tuesday in an all-Redmond showdown against Redmond High School (RHS), starting at 7 p.m. at RHS.

 

Overlake girls start off season with wins

The Owl girls’ soccer team started off their 2011 campaign with a pair of victories over the weekend, beating Northwest School in their 1A Emerald City League opener 5-2 on Friday and defeating Meridian 3-2 on Saturday.

In the Northwest School win, Katie Hill scored in the 2nd minute off a Tess Edenholm assist and Edenholm later scored in the 13th minute off a feed from from Jenay Brown.

After Northwest tied the game 2-2 heading into halftime, the Owls dominated the back end of the game.

Forward Adrianna Gildner had an assist and scored twice, and Emily Walter also headed in a corner kick as the Owls put the game away.

On Saturday, Edenholm added two more goals and freshman Catherine Cunningham recorded a score and an assist in the win.

The Owls are 1-0-0 in league play and 2-0-0 overall.

 

Redmond boys’ golf routs Issaquah

Playing at their home course, Bear Creek Country Club, the Mustangs had no trouble earning their second league win with a 226-199 win over Issaquah.

Redmond took the top five scoring spots, led by Cole Helgeson who fired an even-par 36. Oliver Rudnicki carded a 39 with his twin brother Lyle and Conrad Croshaw shooting 41s.
