Mustang wrestlers beat Garfield | Prep report

The Redmond High wrestling team evened its season meet record at 8-8 with a 4A Kingco league win over Garfield Wednesday night. Highlights for the Mustangs included four pins: Matt Amaral (113) over Janey Dahlgren in 3 minutes, 28 seconds, Bryan LaPierre (138) over Aiden Nuttall in 2:40, Eli Grady (145) over Tim Lu in 3:00, and Sean Donovan (195) over Brian Lam in 1:35.

At 152, Jacob Grant notched a decision win over Tom Foy, 9-3, Blake Emery, wrestling at 160, beat Jake Rosenthal 5-2, and Josh Steenson (182) beat Cole Teller 14-7.

 

Owls hold off Northwest

Playing in a 1A Emerald City League matchup at Northwest School on Wednesday night, the Overlake School boys stormed out to a first-quarter lead and held on to a 57-52 victory.

The Owls led 30-22 at halftime, and were able to nurse a slim lead through the second half.

Four Overlake players were in double-digits in the team win: Dean Poplawski led all scorers with 16, followed by Jackson Umberger’s 14, and Cameron Lui and Will Spencer with 13 each.

The win elevated the team to 4-5 in league and 8-9 overall.
