The Redmond High baseball team broke through last Friday for their first win of the season, a 3-0 nonleague victory over Lake Washington.

Mustang starter Kirk Gysler was masterful on the mound, going five strong innings and scattering four hits while striking out eight and walking only two.

Offensively, Thomas Crosley came up big with an RBI double to left center, plating Peyton Lutz, who also stroked a double in the fourth inning.

On the play after Lutz’s hit, the Mustangs got a break as sophomore Brandon Burditt was caught in a rundown between third and home, but a throwing error by Lake Washington scored Burditt, and Lutz scrambled home as well for a pair of unearned runs.

Redmond now travels to take on Garfield (2-3 league record) tomorrow at 3:45 p.m.

Mustangs blanked by Juanita phenom Rhodes

The Redmond fastpitch squad got to face one of the state’s top pitchers on Friday night at home, Allison Rhodes, and got shut out by the Notre Dame-bound senior and the Rebels 12-0 in a nonleague contest.

Rhodes scattered four hits in the complete game (six-inning) effort while striking out 14 Mustang batters.

The loss dropped Redmond to 1-2 on the year. They take on Redmond’s Lindbergh in their final preseason game tonight at 5 p.m. before starting up their league schedule again on Tuessday against Issaquah at home.
