Mustangs fall just short against No. 3 Skyline | Prep basketball report

Playing in a premiere 4A Kingco matchup against the third-ranked Skyline Spartans, the No. 4 Redmond boys' basketball team put up a fight, but fell to the Spartans' clutch late free-throw shooting, 60-56. Spartan guard Will Parker drained four shots from the line in the final 22 seconds, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Spartan guard Will Parker drained four shots from the line in the final 22 seconds, which proved to be the difference in the game.

With the Mustangs coming out of the long snow layoff rusty, the team trailed the entire first half before coming alive in the third quarter, led by Jason Harrington, who scored 11 of his game-high 25 in the period and converted a three-pointer to give Redmond a momentary lead.

Parker (23 points) led the Spartan charge in the fourth, re-gaining the lead for good and holding on in the closing seconds.

Redmond fell to 6-3 in league play and 11-4 overall and will play again tonight at Issaquah, tipoff at 7:30 p.m.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Mustangs lost to Issaquah, 68-42, to drop to 1-8 in league play (5-10 overall).  Lauren Bogard and Kelsey Dunn led the girls with 11 points each.

 

Bear Creek teams rout Rainer Christian

Led by the 18 points of Luke Blankenbeckler, the Grizzly boys handily defeated visiting Rainier Christian 71-38 on Tuesday night in a Sea-Tac 2B league game.

Six players scored seven points or more: Gabe Rongve (10), Erik Domas (9), Collin Feight (9), Lucas Fernandez (8), and Blake Denniston (7).

The win kept Bear Creek perfect in league play at 7-0 and 13-2 overall.

Playing earlier in the evening, the girls’ team came out firing and buried the Mustangs early, 52-17.

Nine different Grizzlies scored in the win, led by Kendall Englestone with 11.

With the win, the girls improved to 6-1 in league and 9-5 overall.

 

Cedar Park downs Overlake

The Owl boys had one of their better games on Monday night on the road at Cedar Park Christian, but were out-shot by the Eagles in a 72-57 1A Emerald City League loss.

The Eagles scored no less than 16 points in each quarter, taking the lead early and playing add-on the rest of the way.

For Overlake, three players were in double-digits, led by Dean Poplawski with 21.

Cameron Lui (13) and Jackson Umberger (10) also contributed for the Owls, who dropped to 3-5 in league play and 7-9 overall.
