Kaitlyn Parrott, who graduated from Redmond High School in June, has signed a national letter of intent to run track at NCAA Division II Central Washington University (CWU) next season.
Parrott played basketball and ran track for the Mustangs, receiving five varsity letters during her high school career. A speedy 5-foot-7 guard on the basketball court, she was often asked to defend the opposition’s top scorer and was twice named the team’s “Unsung Hero” by her fellow players and coaches.
On the track, Parrott was the school’s top female sprinter, qualifying for 4A Kingco and bi-district meets in 100 meters, 200, and 1,600 relay as a junior.
While injuries prevented Parrott from competing on the track during her senior year, in 2008 the team of Jenny Light (Santa Clara Univ.), Sarah Lord (Boston College), Jillian Jaccard (Loyola Marymount), and Parrott won the 1,600 relay at the Kingco meet in 4 minutes, 4.18 seconds, third-best in school history, and good enough to qualify for the state meet.
“We are delighted that Kaitlyn has chosen Central and I expect that she and fellow freshman Sarah Takayoshi of Union High in Vancouver will both compete for our top sprinter spot during their careers here,” said Kevin Adkisson, head track and field coach at Central. “(Our recruitment this year) is among the best women’s class we’ve ever had.”
Parrott plans to study Psychology or Fashion Merchandising at CWU.
