The visiting Redmond boys basketball team got a much-needed 4A Kingco win on Tuesday night against Woodinville, sneaking away with a 41-40 victory.

The game was tight the whole way, with the Mustangs coming back from a 25-19 deficit to lead 32-31 going into the fourth quarter before holding on for the win.

The Mustangs (1-2 in Kingco, 3-4 overall) spread the ball around with success, as eight of the nine varsity players scored in the game. Justin Alexander led the way for the Mustangs with 15. Will Ellis and Philip Leland each added six apiece.

The Mustangs are now 1-1 in one-point games this year after their devastating 45-44 loss to Newport at home on Dec. 12.

The win improved the Mustangs to 1-2 in league play and 3-4 overall.

Grizzly boys stay perfect

The Bear Creek boys continued their torrid scoring pace and remained undefeated with a 72-42 Sea-Tac B league win against Rainier Christian Tuesday night. The win improved the Grizzlies to 3-0 in league play and 9-0 overall.

The Grizzlies made an early statement with a 26-point first quarter, and the game was all but over by halftime as the Grizzlies led 39-17.

Bear Creek had four players in double-digits.

Sophomore guard Lucas Peterson shattered his season-high with 20 points, league-leading scorer Jamie Meyer (24.0 points per game), added 15, Kyle Blankenbeckler put in 13 and Michael Davisson scored 10.

The Mustangs’ Brandon Austin led all scorers with 21, but nobody else on the team scored more than five.

Redmond wrestlers struggle in double-dual

Redmond wrestlers were outmatched by Issaquah, a converted 3A powerhouse, 48-31, and perennial favorites Inglemoor, 41-19, in a double-dual meet Tuesday night at Redmond High School.

Redmond’s Nolan Thomas (135 pounds) went 2-0 during the night with victories against Issaquah’s David White, 7-2, and Inglemoor’s Casey Stoltz, 17-3. Redmond’s Sean Holt (140) pinned Issaquah’s Cody Duke in 3 minutes, 46 seconds, and returning state-qualifier Esteban Herrera (215) defeated Cameron Alvi of Issaquah, 13-4.
