The Redmond Mustangs girls softball team defeated the Lake Washington Kangaroos, 5-1, in the 3A KingCo tournament championship game on May 12 at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore.
Redmond improved its overall record to 18-4 with the win while Lake Washington dropped to 15-4 overall.
Both teams finished the regular season 13-1 and tied for first place in 3A KingCo with each team’s only conference loss to each other.
Redmond took an early lead by scoring a run in the first inning on a passed ball, and then scored again in the second inning on an RBI single by Camille Eaton.
LW’s Marissa Ewald singled home Emma Rosendal for the Kangs’ only run in the sixth inning. Tori Bivens threw seven innings, giving up five runs, eight hits and striking out five.
Redmond’s Kiki Milloy pitched seven innings, giving up two hits and striking out 13. Jennifer Cummings and Audrey Walker each had two hits and Lauren Lund drove in two RBIs to lead the Mustangs to the win.
LW will play Chief Sealth at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 3A SeaKing District tourney at the Southeast Athletic Complex in Seattle.
Redmond will play the Roosevelt/Garfield winner at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Seattle.
