Newport defeated Redmond, 28-6, in the teams’ football opener on Friday night.

Newport led 21-0 at halftime and tacked on another touchdown and PAT in the third quarter before Redmond’s Robert Fleeks scored on a 3-yard run with 16 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Fleeks carried the ball 16 times for 52 yards. Quarterback A.J. Rial had four carries for 49 yards and completed 5-of-8 passes for 28 yards; backup quarterback Nick Swanson was 3-for-6 for 54 yards passing. Jake Talbot and Parker Narlock caught three passes each; Talbot totaled 55 yards, including a 44-yard grab.

Redmond will host Mount Si at 7 p.m. on Friday.
