Overlake and Bear Creek boys golfers competed at the 1A Emerald City League tournament on Oct. 17 at Bellevue Golf Course. The Owls took second place and the Grizzlies finished third behind champion Seattle Academy while the locals sent seven golfers to the bi-district tournament in May.
Seattle Academy, Overlake and Bear Creek tied for the league regular-season title with identical 4-2 records.
At the tournament, Seattle Academy scored 80.5 points, followed by Overlake with 65.5, Bear Creek with 52.5 and Bush with 29.5.
Local district qualifiers are Overlake freshman Zubin Sannakkayala (76, second place), Bear Creek sophomore Aaron Moore (77, third place), Bear Creek freshman Giap Do (77, fifth place), Bear Creek freshman Jack Yang (80, eighth place), Overlake freshman Ethan Haight (80, ninth place), Overlake sophomore Ryan Ahn (80, 10th place) and Overlake sophomore Joseph Zhang (85, 13th place).
Seattle Academy junior Max Malakoff won the tournament with a 74.
Sannakkayala — the league rookie of the year — Moore and Do earned first-team all-league honors. Overlake and Seattle Academy tied for the team sportsmanship award.
