The Overlake School boys’ basketball team’s run came to an end on Saturday night in their opening-round game of the Tri-District tournament, falling 76-71 to King’s School in overtime.

King’s, ranked No. 5 in the state at the 1A level, matched Overlake shot-for-shot in the contest, which included an incredible 51 points scored in the first quarter alone.

With the score tied at 65-65 at the end of regulation, the Owls were held to just six points as the Knights, led by James McCutchen’s game-high 24, put in 11 to win.

For Overlake, senior Dean Poplawski ended his prep career with a team-high 15, with Cameron Lui (13), Kevin Sample (13) and Daniel Johnson (10) also scoring in double digits.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the effort we played with tonight,” said head coach Justin Prohn. “They gave it everything they had, left everything they had on the court, and just came up a little short. It was a great high school basketball game. The seniors have left their mark on the program and the future is bright.”
