The Overlake School boys’ lacrosse squad escaped past Bellarmine Prep, 12-11, in a penalty-filled Division I game Tuesday night at The Overlake School.

The aggressive Owls had 14 penalties called against them during the game, as the Lions had two chances to tie the game in the final minute but could not convert either shot.

Offensively, Sky Tweedie-Yates paced the Owls, scoring three goals and notching one assist, with Devon Schmidt also earning a hat trick. Joe Dolack and Scout Tweedie-Yates put in two goals apiece.

With the win, the Owls improved to 4-2-0 while Bellarmine Prep fell to 2-7-0.

The Owls next play against Stadium High School at Mason Middle School in Tacoma Thursday night at 6 p.m.

MUSTANGS DEFEAT SKYLINE, TAKE ON NEWPORT THURSDAY

Playing their best nine-hole match of the year, the Redmond High girls’ golf team defeated Skyline on the Spartans’ home course, Plateau Golf and Country Club, 225-268, in a 4A Kingco match Tuesday afternoon.

Junior Kelly Kennewick fired a stellar two-over-par 38 to medal on the wet, cold and difficult course. Also playing well for the Mustangs was sophomore Keira O’Hearn, who shot a 44.

The win was the team’s 72nd-consecutive 4A Kingco league victory, with the Mustangs facing a tough task in undefeated Newport Thursday afternoon at The Golf Club at Newcastle, with tee times starting at 3:30.

MUSTANG BASEBALL ROCKS LAKE WASHINGTON

Thanks to a big five-run fifth inning, the Redmond baseball team came from behind to beat the Lake Washington Kangaroos, 8-3, in a 4A Kingco contest at Lee Johnson Field Tuesday night.

The Mustangs struck first, but the Kangs took the lead on a 2-run RBI single by Trevor Dunlap.

Redmond’s big fifth was highlighted by tiring LW starter Bob Cruikshank giving up an extra-base RBI hit to Dylan Davis, who went 2-for-4 with a double and triple, and scored twice.

Speedy second baseman Josh Bircher also pitched in offensively with a 2-for-3 night, including a triple, and scored three times.

Davis was dominating on the mound, going five innings and giving up three runs on three hits, notching 12 of his 15 recorded outs via the strikeout.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to a division-leading 9-2 and 12-3 overall.

WOODINVILLE FASTPITCH BLASTS REDMOND

Redmond High starting pitcher Emily Graves struggled Monday night as powerhouse Woodinville knocked off the Mustangs, 11-2, in a 4A Kingco fastpitch matchup.

Graves lasted just one-third of an inning and surrendered eight runs on four hits and three walks. Melissa White pitched well in relief, going 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs and scattering eight hits while striking out two.

On offense, Redmond’s Ashley Mitchell continued to swing a hot bat against Falcons’ starter Madi Schreyer, who improved to 3-0 on the season, with a 2-for-3 night.

Over her last four games, Mitchell has four hits in her last six plate appearances.

Christine Ho, Stephanie Gero, Joanna French, Riley Flynn and Lindsay Cristobal each notched hits off of Schreyer, with Cristobal extending her hitting streak to four games.

The Mustangs next play Skyline at home on Thursday night, first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
