Overlake qualifies for 1A state regionals | Boys Basketball

Overlake's boys basketball team defeated Sultan, 60-53, on Saturday in the 1A Bi-District 1/2 tournament at Mountlake Terrace High. The Owls (17-4 overall) qualify for state regionals and will take on Castle Rock (15-8 overall) at 4 p.m. on Sept. 28 at WF West High in Chehalis. The Owls finished second in the 1A Emerald City League and have won nine of their last 10 games.

In the back-and-forth contest, the Owls scored 24 fourth-quarter points to erase a 41-35 third-quarter deficit while their clutch free-throw shooting in the last two minutes put the game away.

Latio Cosmos led the Owls with 22 points and Rick Chavez added 16.

This is the second time Overlake has reached the state tourney in the school’s 48-year history.

The Owls finished second in the 1A Emerald City League and have won nine of their last 10 games.
