Overlake’s strong postseason run comes to end in state quarterfinals

The Overlake School’s miraculous boys soccer season came to an end in the Class 1A state quarterfinals in a 2-1 loss to King’s High at Woosely Stadium on Friday.

Overlake ended its season at 11-7-3, which was unexpected given the team won just three games last year and started the year 1-4-1 this year. In addition, the team started a half dozen sophomores at any given time this year. But Overlake somehow turned that into a state-caliber team that shocked the Emerald City League by getting a berth to the state tournament.

The Emerald City League soccer season is in the fall, but the state season is in the spring. The layoff didn’t hinder the Owls in the state opener, however, in beating Vashon 1-0. King’s had won its opening state game 10-0.
