Prep Report: Bear Creek Volleyball ends season with sweep, ready for Districts

The Bear Creek School volleyball squad capped off a perfect Sea-Tac 2B league season with a three-game road sweep of Evergreen Lutheran on Tuesday night by game scores of 25-14, 25-20, 25-19.

For the Grizzlies, Maddie Easley led the team with 13 kills, Morgan Cadigan dug out 13 balls and Michele Brown recorded 25 assists and had a game-high seven aces.

The Grizzlies, who are the No. 1 seed in the Bi-District 2B Tournament this Saturday at Stanwood High School, will be vying for one of four state berths at the tournament. The Grizzlies (12-0, 13-1) did not lose a single game in league play, and their only match loss came in a non-league matchup against Christian Faith, 3-2, back on Oct. 22.

OWL RUNNERS MAKE STATE

Freshmen Sonja Johnson-Yu and Mariel Frank of The Overlake School girls’ cross country team notched state berths last weekend at the Tri-District Championships at American Lake Golf Course in Tacoma.

Johnson-Yu followed up a ninth-place run at the league meet by running 20 minutes, 36 seconds at districts, good for 11th place, and Frank just snuck in the top-25 cut by four-tenths of a second, running 21:09 for 24th place.

Both girls will be running as individuals at the 1A state meet, which will get underway Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
