Prep report: Mustang golfers claim Kingco championship

Fresh off their undefeated season, the Redmond High boys' golf team won the 4A Kingco title on Tuesday at Snohomish Golf Course, shooting a team score of 366 to win by 13 strokes over Eastlake. Senior captain Charlie Mroz led the field and medaled with a 3-under-par 69, followed by Cole Helgeson (71), Henrique Pombo (75), Oliver Rudnicki (77) and Lyle Rudnicki (78).

All six Mustangs made the cut to top’s second round of play, which will determine berths into the 4A state tournament next spring, with the top 11 players advancing.

LADY GRIZZLIES SHUT OUT EVERGREEN LUTHERAN

Morgan Rial added two more goals to her impressive 2010 total on Wednesday afternoon as The Bear Creek School girls’ soccer team blanked Evergreen Lutheran, 2-0, in a Sea-Tac B League game at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.

Rial’s goals came early in the first half, with one coming in the 6th minute off an assist from Ashley Pittman and the second one tallied in the 11th minute off a pass from Caroline Bridgwater. Rial is currently in second place in the Sea-Tac 2B league with 11 goals scored this year.

With the win, Bear Creek improved to 5-1 in league play and 5-4-3 overall.

MUSTANG OFFENSE CRUSHES NEWPORT

For the second time this year, the Redmond High School girls’ soccer team scored four goals in a game in a winning effort as the Mustangs beat winless Newport 4-1 in a 4A Kingco contest at home on Tuesday night.

Annika Hayman led the offense with two goals in the 10th and 45th minutes.

Freshman Sierra Bilginer, who assisted Hayman’s first goal, scored off Amy Pumputis’ feed in the 70th minute.

With the win, Redmond improved to 2-5-0 in league and 3-5-3 overall.

REDMOND TENNIS EDGES INGLEMOOR

Despite being swept in doubles action, the Redmond High boys’ tennis team routed Inglemoor in singles play to win the 4A Kingco tennis match 4-3.

Redmond gave up just three games in singles play as Jeff Jou, playing No. 1, beat Paul Pisani 6-0, 6-2. Scott Singleton, No. 2, and Dhruv Balakrishnan, No. 3, both swept in straight sets, and No. 4 Matt Lee gave up just one game against Zach Church 6-0, 6-1.

BEAR CREEK VOLLEYBALL REMAINS PERFECT

The Bear Creek School volleyball team still has not given up a game in eight matches this year as they routed Tacoma Baptist 3-0 at home on Tuesday night, 25-11, 25-7, 25-15, a Sea-Tac B League contest.

Hitter Domonique DuBois led the offense with 14 kills, Bethan Meyers swatted seven aces, and Michele Brown recorded 24 assists and five aces.

With the win, Bear Creek went to 7-0 in league play and 8-0 overall.

OVERLAKE SCORES SEVEN AGAINST BUSH

The Overlake Schools boys’ soccer team had plenty of offense to spare as the Owls tied a season high with seven goals in a 7-0 shutout of Bush on Tuesday afternoon at home.

The Emerald City League game remained close at the half as only one Owl goal was scored, by Gavin Mackinlay off of Grant Munoz’s assist.

In the second half, however, the Owls wore down the Bush defense as five different players found the net. For the game, Mackinlay had two goals and one assist, Joe Dolack scored a pair, Henk Wolda, Rohan Kumar and Mac Hewitt each scored one goal, and Dean Poplawski and Rob Neir each notched two assists.

The Overlake boys kept their record spotless at 9-0-0 in league play and 10-0-0 overall.
