Prep Report: Mustang swimmers beat Falcons, Harper notches two state qualifying times

Harper’s times of 1 minute, 1.76 seconds in the 100 fly and 1:05.80 in the 100 breaststroke were good enough to punch her ticket to state in those events.

Additional highlights for Redmond included the 200 medley relay team of Allison Binkerd, Heather Harper, Kisa Isobe and Stephanie Sze winning in 1:59.81, Binkerd taking the 200 individual medley in 2:26.93, Kate Garland grinding out the 500 free in 6:10.10, and the 400 free relay team of Garland, Binkerd, Emily Smith and Heather Harper winning in 4:09.30.

REDMOND RUNNERS TEAR IT UP AT BEAVER LAKE

The Mustang cross country team put together a number of solid performances on Wednesday afternoon against Issaquah and Eastlake at their 4A league meet at Beaver Lake in Sammamish.

The boys ran away with with team win, beating Eastlake 26-47 (score determined by adding up places of top five runners), and were led by senior Miles Hille who ran a 16 minute, 44 second 5K for second place.

Sophomore Johnathan Stevens was just two seconds behind Hille at 16:48, with Max Dunn and Zach Kirwan finishing fifth and sixth at 17:11 and 17:12, respectively.

On the girls’ side, Redmond lost a tiebreaker with Eastlake after both schools finished with 29 team points.

Sophmore Lila Rice led the way for the Mustangs in 19:48 to place third, and was closely followed by Holly Young (19:49) and Kelsey Dunn (19:51) in fourth and fifth.

Also placing in the top 10 were Jenna Sanders (20:07, 7th) and Allie Nichols (20:32, 10th).

The Mustangs next race at the 4A Kingco Championships which will be held at Lincoln Park in Seattle on Thursday, Oct. 21. The girls’ race at 2 p.m. and the boys’ taking off at 3:15.

ELEVEN IS HEAVEN FOR GRIZZLIES

The red-hot Bear Creek boys’ soccer team got a hat trick from Tom Postings and plenty more offense as they blanked Puget Sound Adventist in a Sea-Tac 2B league matchup on Thursday night 6-0 for their league-leading 11th win of the year..

Nima Abtahi opened up the scoring in the 4th minute, with Postings adding the first of his three goals in the 25th minute off Will Stansell’s assist.

Stansell and Mark Phillips also scored in the second half for the Grizzlies, who improved to 7-0-0 in league play and 11-0-0 overall.

Phillips currently leads the league with 14 goals and Postings, with 10, is tied for second place.

OWL GIRLS BLANK CEDAR PARK

Playing at Marymoor Park on Thursday night against the Eagles, the Overlake girls’ team put forth a fine defensive effort and just enough offense to win 2-0.

Quinn Phillips, playing a full game in goal for the first time this season, earned the shutout as Adrianna Gildner scored in the 28th minute off Emily Kelly, and late in the second half freshman Katie Hill scored her first high school goal off a Jenay Brown feed as insurance for the Owls.

With the win, Overlake improved to 8-2-1 (10-2-1 overall) while the Eagles fell to 4-5-2 (6-5-2).
