Senior Dylan Davis got it done on the mound and at the plate during Redmond’s 11-1 season-opening win over Mount Si on Monday afternoon at home.

Davis, who will play at Oregon State next year, slammed a pair of two-run homers and also laced a double for a total of five RBIs. On the mount, he tossed four innings, allowing one unearned run while striking out three.

Senior Zach Abbruzza broke the game open with a bases-clearing three-run double in the fifth, and another senior, T.J. Whidby, pitched two perfect innings in relief, striking out three.

The Mustangs next play against the 3A Juanita Rebels at Hartman Park on Wednesday, at 7 p.m.

Redmond fastpitch buries Eastside Catholic

The fastpitch season opener was all Redmond as the Mustangs routed Eastside Catholic 11-0 at home on Monday afternoon.

Returning pitchers Melissa White and Emily Graves combined to pitch a gem, with White going three innings and striking out five, and Graves two innings, also with five punchouts.

The Mustangs broke the game open in the second inning, scoring eight runs on seven hits. In the scoring spree, Stephanie Gero hit a bases-loaded triple, Louise Chouinard laced a double that drove in two, and Natalie Roberts, Ashley Walls, Kelly Walls, Ashley Mitchell and Melissa White each contributing a hit.

The Mustangs next play, weather permitting, on Wednesday at Kentridge at 4 p.m.

Owl golfers light up Cardinals

The Overlake boys’ golf team got off to a solid start to the season, beating Seattle Academy 175-199 at Redmond Ridge on Monday afternoon.

For the Owls, Reid Fredrickson tied for medalist honors with a 42 with the Cardinals’ Sam Fisher, and Daniel Lee (44) Noah Mayer (44) and Sam Brown (45) each contributing scores to the team win.
