The Mustangs held an eight-point lead at the half before a big 24-point third quarter put the game away.

Redmond had four players in double-digits, led by sophomore Jason Harrington with 20, followed by Andrew Squiers with 16, Josh Bircher with 14 and Conner Floan added 11.

2B Grizzlies thrash 1A Seattle Academy

Powered by a game-high 16 points from 6-foot-6 forward Ryan Strandin, the Bear Creek boys’ basketball team defeated Seattle Academy, 55-38, in a nonleague contest.

A solid defensive effort by the Grizzlies held the Cardinals to just two points in the second quarter as Bear Creek put 20 on the board to put the game away early.

Lucas Peterson scored 14 for the Grizzlies, followed by Kyle Blankenbeckler with eight.

Overlake downs Evergreen Lutheran

The Overlake School boys’ basketball team ended its non-league schedule with a bang, scoring 44 points in the first half in a 71-41 rout of Evergreen Lutheran on Tuesday night at home.

Seniors John Stolarczuk and Hakan Yagiz led the way with 18 and 14 points, respectively, as five Owls scored in double digits in the win.

Overlake plays today at home in its Emerald City League opener against University Prep at 3:30 p.m.

Lady ‘Stangs fall to Eagles

Despite a season-high 21 points from 6-foot-4 post Marissa Pratt, the Redmond High girls’ basketball squad fell short in their 4A Kingco opener against Issaquah on Wednesday night at home, 55-45.

The duo of junior guards Mackenzie Schiltz and Blaire Bardy proved too much for Redmond as they combined for 34 points.

For the Mustangs, Jessica Bushmeyer put in eight and Chandler Jones scored seven.

Elliott, Owls rout Forest Ridge

Playing on the road, Overlake senior Jessica Elliott couldn’t miss on Wednesday night against Forest Ridge as she put in 23 of her team’s 51 points in a 51-17 rout of the Ravens in the Owls’ league opener.

The Owls’ defense held Forest Ridge to just eight points at the half and never looked back.

Meggie Howell contributed 12 to the Owls’ efforts and freshman forward Vanessa Rosato added eight.

Grizzlies stay perfect

The Lady Grizzlies polished off a perfect non-league start to their season with a 37-27 win over 1A Seattle Academy on Tuesday night in Seattle.

Bear Creek was led offensively by sophomore wing Maddie Magee with 12 points and senior Megan Cheever who added 11.

Redmond falls to Archbishop Murphy

Redmond High put up a fight but fell to the Archbishop Murphy, 36-30, in a non-league wrestling meet Wednesday night.

After getting swept in the lower weight classes, highlights for the Mustangs included James Larson, wrestling at 160, pinning Matthew Castoriano in 1 minute, 47 seconds, Simeon Simov (189) pinning Dakota Creed at 2:33, and heavyweight Joe Glass achieving the meet’s quickest pin, defeating James Peckham in 1:26.

Knights outswim Mustangs

At a 4A Kingco swim meet last Thursday at Redmond Pool, the Newport Knights won seven of 11 events to defeat the Mustangs 118-67.

Highlights for Redmond include Michael Pavlov taking the 200 Free in 2 minutes and 10 hundreths of a second, Tyler Bennett winning the diving competition with 122.40 points, Michael Pavlov emerging victorious in the 100 Free in 54.22 and the team of Bennet, Pavlov, Nicholas Kodati and Kevin Creekmore winning in 1:41.36.
