Prep Report: Overlake girls soccer rebounds with win

After suffering a 1-0 loss against Bush on Friday afternoon, The Overlake School girls’ soccer team came back strong on Saturday against Montesano at home, notching a 2-1 victory in a non-league contest.

Senior Nikki Reynolds scored in the 3rd minute off a nice feed from sophomore Quinn Phillips, and Phillips scored herself unassisted on a free kick in the 15th minute.

Montesano’s Ashlyn Crossan put one in midway through the second half but Montesano was unable to score the equalizer.

With the win and the loss over the weekend, the Owls now stand at 5-2 in 1A Emerald City League play and 7-2 overall.

OWL BOYS SHUT OUT NORTHWEST

The visiting Overlake School boys’ soccer team scored early and often against Northwest at the Queen Anne Bowl Friday afternoon in a 7-0 shutout victory.

Offense came from all over the field as Henk Wolda and Gavin Mackinlay scored twice, and Dean Poplawski, J.J. Cardenas and Joe Dolack also put goals in. Mac Hewitt notched two assists, and Mackinlay, Grant Munoz and Tyler Reichenadter each recorded one.

With the win, Overlake stayed perfect at 7-0-0 in league play and 8-0-0 overall.

OVERLAKE VOLLEYBALL BEATS SAMMAMISH

Playing in a non-league game at home on Friday night, the struggling Overlake School volleyball team was able to come away with a win against Sammamish High (3A Kingco), 3-1.

After trading game wins 25-21 and 25-13 in games one and two, the Owls eked out a pair of nip-and-tuck battles, 25-23 and 26-24 in games three and four to seal the win.

For the Owls, Emily Chambard led the offense with 11 kills, followed by Kristen Parris with seven. Defensively, Louise Chouinard shined with 19 digs and three aces, while setter Vanessa Rosato recorded 24 assists and three aces.

Overlake remained at 0-5 in 1A Emerald City League play and improved to 2-5 overall.

LADY GRIZZLIES SUFFER FIRST LEAGUE LOSS

The Bear Creek School girls’ soccer team fell to league-leading Seattle Lutheran on Friday afternoon at home 2-1 in a Sea-Tac 2B league game.

The Saints’ Sam Depew scored unassisted in the closing minutes of the first half, but the Grizzlies’ Jenny Price answered with a penalty kick to tie the game. Seattle Lutheran would have the last word as Ashley Shaw scored on a penalty kick to put the Saints ahead for good.

With the loss, Bear Creek stayed in second place in league standings at 2-1-0 and evened its overall record to 3-3-3.

REDMOND FOOTBALL PUMMELED BY SKYLINE

The dynamic duo of Skyline quarterback Max Browne and one of the state’s most highly touted receivers, Kasen Williams, had a field day as they connected three times in Redmond’s 45-0 loss to Skyline in a 4A Kingco Crest Division contest on Friday night.

After Jordan Simone caught two Browne passes for scores in the first quarter, Williams, a University of Washington-bound senior, caught three more of 26, 68 and 11 yards in the first half alone as the Spartans led 42-0 at the break.

With the loss, Redmond dropped to 0-2 in division play and 2-3 overall.
