Prep Report: Overlake soccer teams stay perfect

The Overlake School girls’ soccer team won a nailbiter against Cedar Park Christian on Tuesday night at North Creek Playfields, beating the Eagles, 1-0 in overtime, in a 1A Emerald City League matchup.

Both teams played stellar defense as the game remained scoreless during regulation, and with a little over one minute left in the second overtime, Susannah Kelly executed a perfect corner kick to senior Maya Marder who headed in the game-winner.

The clutch goal kept the Owls undefeated at 5-0-0 in league play and 7-0-0 overall.

The Owl boys’ team slammed home five goals in a 5-2 road victory over Seattle Christian on Tuesday night. The team spread the ball around as five players — Jesse Klug, Trevor Partington, Joe Dolack, Henk Wolda and Rohan Kumar — each scored in the win. Devon Schmidt contributed with two assists and Dolack had one.

The win kept the Owls on top of the 1A Emerald City League standings at 5-0-0, 6-0-0 overall.

MUSTANG SOCCER RUNS OVER GARFIELD

The Redmond girls’ soccer team scored early and often during a 6-2 rout of Garfield in a 4A Kingco contest at Redmond High School Tuesday night.

The onslaught started with a goal from junior midfielder Rachel Herron on a feed from Kristin Hayman three minutes into the game as the Mustangs went up, 1-0.

Redmond closed out the first half by scoring three unanswered goals, one by Annika Hayman assisted by Caroline Armijo and Jordan Scheibe; and two by Megan Cooley in the last three minutes of the half.

Annika booted her second goal, off of a pass from Herron at the 60-minute mark, for the Mustangs’ sixth goal.

The win improved Redmond to 2-1-0 on the season in Kingco play and 4-2-0 overall while Garfield dropped to 1-2-0 (2-3-1).

BEAR CREEK GIRLS SOCCER BLASTS RAINIER CHRISTIAN

Led by Morgan Rial’s hat trick, the Grizzlies opened up their Sea-Tac 2B league season with a convincing 8-0 rout of Rainier Christian on Monday night.

Rial had an assist to go along with her three goals, Halle Coleman led off the scoring at the three-minute mark and also assisted Danielle Isbell later in the half. Laurie Robinson scored twice and also assisted one of Rial’s goals.

The win improved the Grizzlies’ overall record to 2-5 on the season.

EASTLAKE VOLLEYBALL EDGES REDMOND

The Mustangs were denied their first 4A Kingco victory of the season Monday night playing at Eastlake as the Wolves came away with the win, 3-1.

After being down 2-0, Redmond eked out a 25-23 win in game three to extend the match, but the Wolves came back strong in the fourth game and outlasted the Mustangs 25-20.

For the Mustangs, middle Ashley Swanson led the offense with 15 kills and five aces.

The loss sent Redmond to 0-2 in 4A Kingco play this season and 1-2 overall.

GRIZZLIES DOMINATE CHIEF LESCHI

The Bear Creek volleyball team traveled to Puyallup to take on the Chief Leschi Warriors, and the Grizzlies came away with a three-game sweep with scores of 25-11, 25-7 and 25-14.

For Bear Creek, Maddie Easley, Dominique DuBois and Makena Schoene slammed home six kills apiece, while Bethan Meyer had five kills to go along with eight aces. Setter Michele Brown had 18 assists and four aces.

The win improved Bear Creek to 2-2 in league play, 4-2 overall.

OVERLAKE VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS AUBURN ADVENTIST

The Owls hit the road to take on Auburn Adventist last Tuesday and the Falcons proved to be no match as Overlake swept Auburn Adventist 3-0 in a non-league matchup.

Senior Alex Weaver led the offense, notching six kills and five aces to go along with 10 assists, while Claire Bazely and Jessica Elliot slammed five kills apiece.

The win evened up the Owls’ overall record at 3-3, while holding steady at 2-2 in 1A Emerald City League play.

REDMOND GOLF STAYS UNBEATEN

Mustang golfers Charlie Mroz and Cole Helgeson tamed a difficult Plateau Club course on Monday as Redmond beat Skyline, 195-204, in a 4A Kingco golf match on Monday.

Mroz and Helgeson tied for medalist honors, shooting one-over-par 37.

The win improved Redmond to 6-0 on the season.

RAIN, MOUNT SI NO MATCH FOR MUSTANGS

Redmond blanked Mount Si 4-0 by sweeping all of its singles matches in a rain-shortened 4A Kingco match on Monday.

No. 1 singles player Blake Larsen defeated Tyler Mrachek 6-0, 6-1. Jeff Jou clobbered Mike Grant 6-1, 6-0, Matt Lee was perfect against Garrett Rolan 6-0, 6-0 and Scott Singleton had no problems with Matt Laird 6-1, 6-0.
