Leading 38-24 after the third quarter, the Eagles pulled off an incredible comeback effort with 21 fourth-quarter points to force overtime at 45-45, which was extended again after both teams scored 10 in the first overtime period.

Senior Jessica Elliott scored 25 for the Owls, with senior Alison Havran notching a new career high with 13 points.

Eagles’ standout Rachel Staudacher scored a season-high 33 in the hard-fought loss.

With the win, the Owls improved to 3-1 in league play and 5-2 overall.

COLD THIRD QUARTER DOOMS OWLS

Despite leading 26-21 at halftime, the Overlake boys’ basketball team fell to Cedar Park Christian, 49-43, Tuesday night to remain winless in 1A Emerald City League play.

After the break, the Eagles came out with a strong defensive effort, outscoring the Owls, 14-4 in the third period to take control of the game.

Trent Halvorson and Matthew Poplawski led the Owls with 13 points apiece, followed by John Stolarczuk with 12.

The Owls are now 0-3 in league play and 4-6 overall.

MUSTANGS PICKING UP STEAM

After a rough 0-5 start to the season, the Redmond High girls’ basketball team got another boost of confidence with a 60-39 thrashing of Bothell in a 4A Kingco matchupWednesday night at the Cougar Den at Bothell High School.

Leading 29-24 at the half, Redmond stepped up its defense in the latter stages of the game, holding the Cougars to just 15 second half points.

Senior team captain Chandler Jones was red-hot from the floor, scoring 28. Six-foot-four post Marissa Pratt added 10 for the Mustangs.

With the win, the Mustangs have now won five of their last six and improved to 2-5 in league play and 5-6 overall.

EIGHT IS GREAT FOR STREAKING GRIZZLIES

The Bear Creek boys’ basketball team extended its perfect Sea-Tac 2B record to 4-0 Tuesday night with a 61-49 victory over Chief Leschi on the road.

The Warriors held a slim 12-10 lead after the first quarter before senior guard Jamie Meyer caught fire, finishing with 28 points as the Grizzlies took the lead for good midway through the second quarter and never looked back.

Lucas Peterson added 13 for the Grizzlies and Lucas Fernandez chipped in with 10.

With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 12-1 overall.

LADY GRIZZLIES BLOW OUT CHIEF LESCHI

All nine Bear Creek School girls scored during their Sea-Tac 2B league matchup against Chief Leschi Tuesday night, which ended in a 50-22 blowout win.

The Warriors were unable to score in the first quarter and trailed 32-7 at the half as Bear Creek coach Alan Dickson gave his reserves a chance to get some playing time.

Sophomore post Kendall Englestone led all scorers with 12 points, followed by fellow sophomore Maddie Magee with 10.

The Grizzlies now stand atop the league with a 4-0 record (10-2 overall).

MUSTANGS PINNED BY MOUNT SI

In a 4A Kingco wrestling meet on Tuesday night at home against Mount Si, the Mustangs fell to the perennially strong Wildcats, 57-12.

Highlights for the Mustangs included Curtis Adolphson (130) pinning Bruce Stewart, Pete Geyser (145) pinning Conor Klupar, and team captain Tyler Black (215) making quick work of Erik Sorvik with a first-round pin.
