Inglemoor ace Dustin Doucette showed no fear of the potent Redmond High lineup in the opening round of the 4A Kingco Tournament on Saturday morning at Woodinville High, going the distance as the Mustangs fell 8-1.
The Vikings drew first blood, scoring twice in the second inning on a two-out triple and an error, with Redmond countering in the bottom of the third as Zach Abbruzza scored to put the Mustangs on the board.
From then on it was all Inglemoor as they played add-on, chasing Oregon State-bound Dylan Davis after four and a third innings, taking advantage of six walks issued by the flamethrower.
For the Mustangs, Davis had the team’s only extra-base hit off of Doucette, a double, with Patrick McGrath, Connor Bozman, Peter Hendron and Michael Conforto checking in with base hits.
With the loss, Redmond (14-7) must now win four straight loser-out games in order to advance to the state tournament, the first of which is against Issaquah (8-13) today at 4 p.m. at Inglemoor High.
Overlake tames Lions
Playing in a boys’ Division I non-league lacrosse matchup, the Owls defeated Lakeside 11-7 on Saturday.
Leading the offensive charge for the Owls was Colton Umberger with four goals, followed by Frost Cunningham with three scores and three ground balls. Erik Risa scored twice and had a game-high 15 ground balls.
Henk Wolda notched six saves in goal for the Owls, who improved to 4-9 overall on the season.
Overlake girls rout Mercer Island
In a girls’ divison II lacrosse game on Saturday, the Owls made quick work of the Islanders in a 15-2 rout.
For Overlake, Katie Hill and Sarah Silverman led the offensive attach with four goals, while Emma Howard and Quinn Phillips combined for six saves in goal.
The Owls, with the win, improved to 8-1 in league play and 11-1 overall.
Redmond lacrosse downs Port Angeles
Redmond’s Liam Watkins and Harrison Stankey each recorded hat tricks as Redmond won its seventh game of the season, an 8-6 victory over Port Angeles on Saturday.
Trailing 3-2 at halftime, Redmond scored five goals in the third to take a 7-4 lead that would hold up.
For Redmond, Nick Shewey blocked 10 shots in goal as the team improved to 8-4 on the season.
