Prep Report: Redmond sweeps javelin at Kingco meet

The Mustangs put forth a strong showing at the 4A Kingco track and field meet at Eastlake High School on Wednesday, with the girls’ squad winning the league championship with 35 team points, and the boys placing fifth with 22. Highlights included Redmond sweeping the javelin event as seniors Jimmy Brookman (176 feet, five inches) and Ally Mueller (129 feet, one inch) each emerged victorious with powerful tosses.

The Mustangs put forth a strong showing at the 4A Kingco track and field meet at Eastlake High School on Wednesday, with the girls’ squad winning the league championship with 35 team points, and the boys placing fifth with 22.

Highlights included Redmond sweeping the javelin event as seniors Jimmy Brookman (176 feet, five inches) and Ally Mueller (129 feet, one inch) each emerged victorious with powerful tosses.

Mueller’s distance was a personal best and her sixth javelin win of the season, and she also added a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 4.75 inches.

Senior Sarah Lord broke the 5-minute mark for the second time this season in the 1,600 meters en route to winning with a time of 4 minutes and 59.04 seconds, with running mate Jillian Jaccard placing third at 5:14.10.

In the boys’ 1,600 race, Mack Young’s run of 4:20.69 was good for a runner-up finish behind Bothell’s Trey Parry (4:16.50), and Miles Hille placed a close fifth at 4:23.54.

OVERLAKE LACROSSE HOLDS OFF REDMOND

In a battle of Evergreen Conference powerhouses, the Overlake Owls outlasted Redmond 15-10 in the regular-season finale at the Overlake School on Tuesday night, handing Redmond its first league loss of the year.

For Overlake, offense was plentiful as George Dolack scored a game-high five goals, the Tweedie-Yates brothers Scout (four goals) and Sky (two goals, one assist) put on solid performances and Devon Schmidt led the team in total points with two goals, five assists and 17 ground balls.

For the Stangs, midfielder Harrison Valentine scored a team-high four goals, while Tyler Dougherty assisted three and put in one of his own. Defender Sean Shewey led Redmond with six ground balls.

Overlake’s junior goalie Chap Grubb earned the win by saving 17 of 26 attempted shots, while Redmond was able to stop just four of 19.

Redmond finished the regular season tied with Overlake at 11-1-0 but still earned the top seed for the playoffs which begin Saturday, May 16 at 1 p.m. at Redmond High School against Sammamish.

OWLS WIN LEAGUE TOURNAMENT

Led by the solid play of Alec Pakzad and Philip Falco, who both shot rounds of two-over-par 74 at Jackson Park Golf Club in Seattle on Wednesday, Overlake ran away with the 1A Emerald City League championship over Bellevue Christian and Cedar Park, which finished second and third, respectively.

Pakzad won medalist honors of Falco when he birdied the first playoff hole.

Pakzad, Falco, Reid Fredrickson (86), Kevin Bush (92) and Corey Koczarski (97) all qualified for the Tri-District tournament to be held next Tuesday, May 19, at Eagle’s Pride Golf Course at Ft. Lewis.
