Redmond built an early lead and extended it to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth on the strength of Jenny Eisenmann’s 2-for-3 night, which included a double and two runs batted in. Christine Ho also went 2-for-3.

Erika Hendron pitched lights-out until the sixth inning, when the Knights (0-3, 3-4) tried to rally for their first league win with three runs, but Hendron and the Mustang defense closed out the game for the win. Redmond is now 3-0 in 4A Kingco conference play and 5-2 overall.

The Mustangs traveled to Issaquah to take on a strong Eagles team on Thursday night after the Reporter’s deadline.

OWLS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT

Behind senior Danny Poplawski’s pitching gem, the Overlake Owls beat 1A Emerald City League rival University Prep, 5-2, on their home baseball field Wednesday night.

Poplawski struck out 10 and scattered three hits in six innings of work.

For Overlake, Seth Bensussen went 2-for-4 including a double and two runs batted in, while his younger brother Josh also got two RBIs on a fifth-inning double.

On Tuesday, the Owls beat Class 3A Nathan Hale in a nonleague game 7-6, during which Josh belted two home runs, including going back-to-back with Poplawski in the fifth inning.

SWEET-SWINGING STANGS REACH MILESTONE

The unbeatable Redmond girls’ golf team won its 60th straight league match on Wednesday night against Garfield at Bear Creek Country Club, defeating the Bulldogs by 100 strokes, 330-230.

The Mustangs were led by senior team captain Kara Zitzman who medaled with a six-over-par 42, and finishing in a three-way tie for second were Kelly Kennewick, Sydney Conway and Amanda Dahl with a 47.

MUSTANG TENNIS FALLS TO ISSAQUAH

Despite a strong showing by No. 1 singles player Narumi Watanabe, Redmond fell to Issaquah 6-3 in a 4A Kingco match Tuesday.

Watanabe defeated Issaquah’s No. 1 Mika Asaba 6-1, 6-2, but it wasn’t enough as the Knights pulled out the win.

Raluca Ifrim, playing No. 2 singles for Redmond, suffered a tough loss after pushing the second set to a tiebreak, falling to Alyssa Wilson 7-6 (7-5).

Kristina Owen won due to forfeit, and Redmond won one of three doubles matches.

SOCCER BLANKED BY BOTHELL

The Mustang soccer team (2-2-1, 2-3-2) held the struggling Cougars (2-4-2, 3-4-2) scoreless for the first 65 minutes of Tuesday night’s 4A Kingco soccer match at Redmond High, but the Cougars finished with a flourish for three goals in the last 15 minutes to net the 3-0 win.

Bothell’s Brandon Rise scored two of the three goals, one unassisted and the other off a feed from Shane Lervold as the clock wound down.

Up next for the Mustangs will be a Friday night matchup against the Ballard Beavers at Interbay Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
