Prep Report update: Mustang golf undefeated for first time since ’06

With a penchant for winning tight matches, the Mustangs pulled one out yet again against Eastlake in their league finale at Sahalee Country Club on Thursday, squeaking by 209-215 and finishing the season perfect at 9-0 and 10-0 overall.

Charlie Mroz medaled for the fifth time this season with a three-over 39 as the powerhouse Mustangs have a 37-2 league record over the last four seasons.

The boys will head to Snohomish Golf Course next week for districts and the state qualifier, from which the top 12 from the 36-hole event will earn spots into the 4A tournament in the spring.

Mustang tennis slams Eastlake

Redmond’s tennis squad took care of their rival Wolves with ease on Thursday night, notching a 6-1 victory at home.

No. 1 singles Jeff Jou lost to a very tough Vicente Varas of Eastlake 6-4, 6-0, but Matt Lee, Scott Singleton and Jorel Murray each won in straight sets to close out the singles play.

The Mustangs had no problems with the doubles matches, as the teams of Ahmed Jafri/Johnson Hsieh (6-3, 6-0), Joel Herd/Chris Chiu (6-2, 6-0) and Joey Gregoritch/Paul Burke (6-1, 6-4) dismantled their opponents.

Up next is a home match against Sammamish on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

Five straight for Grizzlies soccer

The red-hot Bear Creek boys team won its second-consecutive match 5-0, this time playing at Crosspoint High School (formerly King’s West) on their home turf.

Mark Phillips had a hat trick, scoring twice in the first seven minutes and then scoring again at the 73:00 mark.

Dillon camp, who assisted Phillips’ first goal, scored himself in the 20th minute, with Nima Abtahi booting one in the closing minutes for the Grizzlies’ fifth goal.

Jamie Clough earned his third shutout of the season as the team improved to 6-1-1 in Sea-Tac 2B league play and 7-3-2 overall.

Bear Creek beats La Conner

Playing at home against La Conner in a non-league matchup, the Grizzlies emerged victorious 3-1 against the Braves.

Jenny Price led the offense, scoring two unassisted goals in the first half in the 11th and 29th minute, with La Conner’s Nikki Finley scoring at 22:00 to put the pressure back on Bear Creek.

Sophomore Morgan Rial scored just before halftime for the game’s final goal.

The win improved Bear Creek’s overall record to 3-6 on the season.

Grizzlies’ Volleyball sweeps Crosspoint

Bear Creek had no trouble with the Crosspoint Warriors on Thursday night, playing at Crosspoint and winning 3-0 on game scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-14.

Maddie Easley and Dominique DuBois led the offense with nine and seven kills respectively, and the Warriors had trouble returning the Grizzlies’ fine serving as Michele Brown notched seven aces, Easley four, and Bethan Meyer and freshman Makena Schoene with three each.

The win improved Bear Creek to 4-3 on the season, 6-3 overall.
