In an offense-laden 4A Kingco game where a total of 20 runs were scored, the Redmond High baseball team was able to bounce back from its loss to Ballard on Monday with a 12-8 win over Bothell on Wednesday night at Bothell High School.

Mustang starter Dylan Davis pitched well, going five strong innings and allowing two runs on two hits, including a home run to Bothell senior Kevin Knapp, while striking out seven.

The Mustangs, however, brought out their big lumber to take a commanding lead.

Redmond struck for 10 runs in the first five innings, highlighted by a three-run blast by Davis. Zach Abbruzza, Matt Kimmel and Josh Bircher each pitched in with a pair of hits, and Bircher also stole three bases.

The Cougars struck back for six runs in the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough to overtake the hot-swinging Mustangs.

With the win, Redmond improved to 7-2 in league play and 10-3 overall.

REDMOND BURIES NEWPORT EARLY

The Redmond High fastpitch team decimated their 4A Kingco opponent for the second game in a row as the Mustangs routed Newport 13-2 on Wednesday night at Newport High School.

Redmond turned up the offense early in the first inning as Riley Flynn led off with a triple, and scored on a hit by teammate Emily Graves. The Mustangs brought eight batters to the plate and scored three runs in the first inning, and eventually produced hits from all nine spots in the lineup in the five-inning victory.

On the hill, Graves scattered six hits over five innings and struck out one for her fourth win of the season, while helping her cause with a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate.

Lindsey Cristobal, Flynn, and Chelsea Rakonza all added two hits for the Mustangs (2-1 in league, 5-2 overall), who handled Garfield, 11-1 on Monday.
