Redmond-based Dow Baseball Club recently played nine games at the 16U Triple Crown World Series in Dallas, placing third in the field of national competition.

Dow finished second in pool play, then beat the Texas Sox 7-0 and Total Pro Baseball 5-2 before getting knocked into the loser’s bracket by the eventual runner-up team, the Dallas Mets, which Dow fell to again to place third after a pair of 6-4 and 12-2 wins.

Despite triple-digit temperatures, Ben Wessel (.500 average) led the team with seven RBIs for the tournament, with Steve Danek and Connor Mattingly knocking in six each.

Travis Ulvestad did not give up an earned run in two starts on the mound, and Steven Danek also went 2-0 as a pitcher with Brett Ludeman earning two saves.

“The players battled and made no excuses for the heat or the number of games,” said coach Les Dow. “They just played as a team, made all the coaches very proud, and it was a great finish to the 2011 year.”

Dow Baseball has been in Redmond for 43 years, with a total of 1041 local boys playing for the organization through 2011.
