The Redmond-based 12U Washington Hurricanes girls’ 1996 fastpitch softball team, consisting of players from Redmond and the Eastside, recently concluded its season with a title win in the National Softball Association Western Worlds Championship 12A competition.

The tournament, held throughout Snohomish County, consisted of teams from Nevada, California, Washington and British Columbia. The Hurricanes went undefeated in pool play until the championship final against the Washington Angels from Kennewick, Wash.

Because the Hurricanes had not lost during double elimination play, the Angels had to defeat the Hurricanes twice to win the championship.

The Hurricanes held off the Angels in a wild, back-and-forth final to win 5-4 in the second game.

The team finished the season with a record of 50-8-2 in a season during which they won the ASA Seattle-Tacoma Metro Championship, the Hartman Invitational Championship, the SnoCo Awards Invitational, the Sidewinder Spring Invitational and the NSA Western Worlds Spring Qualifier.
