Redmond falls in state opener; Todd Beamer up next

A promising start soon turned sour for the Redmond boys’ basketball team.

The Mustangs couldn’t keep up with top-ranked Federal Way in their Class 4A state tournament opener Wednesday morning, falling to the Eagles, 66-36.

Up next for the Mustangs (16-10) will be a loser-out matchup against the Todd Beamer Titans (14-12) at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Tacoma Dome.

Behind six points by 6-foot-6 forward Justin Alexander, Redmond jumped out to an early 8-3 lead, before the Eagles closed to the quarter on a 14-2 run to lead 17-10 after the first quarter.

Despite plenty of support from their Superfans, the Mustangs just couldn’t stop Federal Way, which led 37-15 at the half.

Jared Alexander led Redmond with nine points, followed by Chris Harrington with seven, and Justin Alexander with six.

Federal Way had three players in double-digits, led by Andre Barrington with 13.
