Redmond High School senior Jessica Kinssies broke a 25-year-old school record in the shot put at Saturday’s Larry Eason Invitation at Snohomish High School.

Kinssies placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 38 feet, 9 inches, breaking Carla Warren’s 1987 school record of 38-4. Kinssies also placed 12th in the discus with a throw of 106-7 to help the Mustangs finish ninth in the team standings at the invitational, which attracted the top athletes from all classifications from around the state.

The Mustangs also faired well in the high jump as senior Katie Lord finished third with a leap of 5-2 and teammate Joy Zhang was fifth with a jump of 5-0. The Bear Creek School senior Madelyn Magee, the two-time defending 2B state high jump champion, won the event, clearing 5-8.

Redmond’s 400 relay team of Kelly Walls, Kathrine Smiley, Mandy Rusch and Maria Eckmann placed second at the invitational with a time of 50.84 seconds. In addition, the Mustangs’ 1,600 relay team of Walls, Rusch, Smiley and Keiko Montenegro ran to a fourth-place finish in 4:10.55.Redmond junior

Johnathan Stevens was the Mustangs’ top boy finisher at the invitational as he placed fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 4:28.68.
