Redmond Paralympian places seventh in 400

Redmond resident Steven Toyoji, who is currently a senior attending Arizona State University, finished seventh in the men’s 400-meter final at the recent Beijing Paralympics (T52 division) with a time of 1 minute, 5.41 seconds.

Redmond resident Steven Toyoji, who is currently a senior attending Arizona State University, finished seventh in the men’s 400-meter final at the recent Beijing Paralympics (T52 division) with a time of 1 minute, 5.41 seconds.

After his race, he remarked on his experience at his first Paralympic Games.

“This is the biggest rush I’ve had in my life, with my family being here and the screaming crowd,” Toyoji said. “I expected the Games to be big, but never this big. They’re everything I imagined and more. The Chinese have been so hospitable, its amazing.”

The 22-year-old graduated from Redmond High School in 2004 and was featured this summer in the July 26 issue of the Redmond Reporter.
